Bright red and light spotting that lasts about a day, and occurs 7-12 days before period.

I have been experiencing the above. Ovulation seems normal, period comes in the same day each month, paps are normal, but I'm experiencing this spotting which has been happening for about the last year. I want to get a dutch test but I can't afford it right now and I would have to find someone who offers it near me. I'm wondering if it's possibly caused by low progesterone? I know each individual is unique but also wondering if anyone else experiencing this and if you found the root cause.
