For the last 6 months, I've been spotting throughout my cycle and bleeding with sex. It started with just spotting for for 3-5 days before my period, then for 5-10 days before, then I started spotting day ~7-10 as well. And my periods got shorter and heavier (normally 5 days, moderate bleeding; now 3 days, heavy bleeding). So basically I get my period, have a few days off, spot for a few days, ovulate, then start spotting again until I get my period. Spotting frequency peaked around 2 cycles ago and the last two cycles have been a little better but something is still clearly off and the bleeding with sex is concerning.
History:
- 30F; no current prescription medications
- Came off hormonal birth control 5 years ago and have had regular cycles since then (~28 days, normal period length and normal bleeding amount)
- Until now, sex has never caused bleeding for me
- About 6 months ago, I got BV for the first time. Symptoms were sporadic so I didn't get treated for about 1.5 months but it cleared with a round of antibiotics (only prescription medication I've had in the last 5 years). There's definitely a correlation here with when I got BV and when the spotting started. I just got retested and an negative but maybe it caused some inflammation that just isn't going away?
OB has ruled out:
- active infections (sti, bv, yeast, etc)
- polyps and fibroids (did an ultrasound or uterus and cervix on day 1 of my last cycle)
- cancer (pap done 5 months ago was clear)
Other
- I have no other hormonal symptoms or pain
- I'm tracking my cycle using BBT and can confirm regular ovulation
- Last time I tested my hormones (about 3 months ago), my testosterone was on the low side but not clinically low
- I live a very healthy lifestyle (balanced diet, regular exercise, good sleep, non-smoker, extremely minimal alcohol, no drug use, etc)
- I tried taking vitex for about 2 months and saw no changes
- Was under a lot of stress about 10 months ago but since then haven't had any major stress
Please help -- the last OB I went to tried to gaslight me into thinking this was normal. Clearly it's not.
