I was talking with a friend of mine who's a doctor about some of my health issues over the years and he said it sounds like I have both low iron and low progesterone. With my low progesterone, the main issue I have is EXTREMELY heavy periods. Like bleeding through a super tampon in a couple hours heavy. In high school it would sometimes be so heavy that I couldn't go to school because I would bleed through pads so much I had to change them hourly.
Now I never go to the doctor unless I absolutely have to and then I go to urgent care, so I don't have a primary care physician. What kind of doctor/clinic should I go to in order to get tested? I've gotten my sexual health treatment at Planned Parenthood in the past, would they do that kind of testing? I currently don't have health insurance but will be starting grad school in the fall and will then trough the school.
In the meantime I've been taking vitamin C and iron supplements to try to help my deficiencies. They have helped a little bit but I think the low progesterone needs hormonal treatment. On days when my period is most heavy I will take ibuprofen about every four hours to help lighten it slightly.
